Tugford Farm Blog

29th April 2014

The warm sunshine (between the showers) is turning every thing green or yellow (where the oil seed rape is growing). From the top of the Brown Clee Hill the patchwork of fields is becoming ever more interesting as farmers plant their spring crops and the trees and hedge rows burst into life. We have nearly finished lambing with the last few still in the building but the rest are out on the fields. We had a very busy two days drenching, injecting and checking all the ewes and lambs but we had extra help in the form of old friends Nick and Jane from Nottingham. It's been a long time since Nick did any farming but he was brilliant and between us, as they say 'many hands make light work' So a big 'Thank you' to them.

Spring Sunshine

9th April 2014

Easter is looming and we have lots of new and returning guests booked in. Widget is having a wonderful time at the moment being entertained by three little girls who don't seem to tire of throwing a tennis ball any more than Widget tires from fetching it. I rode baby horse, Coral, this morning in beautiful sunshine along the Jack Mytton Way and the Wenlock Edge. Just wonderful. I came across a walker who was just sat in the sunshine, leaning back on a big oak tree taking in his surroundings. There just heaven, days like these! Wyndham is ploughing the now dryer ground ready to plant beans and most of the ewes have now lambed. Only the hogs (young ewes) to go now. I spotted Cow Slips and one young Bluebell in the hedge row this morning. Spring is well and truly here.

Summer time and the living is easy! Well if you're on holiday here it is at the moment. What amazing weather. We need a 'Cold Tub' not a 'Hot Tub' We have Swifts, Swallows and House Martins swooping over our heads early morning and evening. It's magical to watch as they scream into the tight places above the stables and cottages. We are busy making Hay (while the sun shines) and so everywhere smells of summer. We have some late availability so if you fancy a last minute break we always up for a barter. Give us a call!
