Tugford Farm Blog

15th March 2017

Lambing Live has begun at Tugford Farm. The sun is shining and the lambs are being born so the work begins in earnest now. We have 330 ewes, mainly Welsh Mules who are really pretty crossed with Suffolk and Texel tups. We've got all the Ewes in the buildings on straw beds with haylage and daily feeds. Lots of little pens built for the mums with their new lambs to go into so they can have extra care before being turned out onto fresh grass fields. The weather plays a hugely important role as wet weather is the main killer of baby lambs so lets hope it continues to be as nice as the last few days have been. Read on in the main blog -

Despite the snow on the top of The Brown Clee hill this moorning Spring is knocking on the door. I've spotted primroses and the mile long verge of snowdrops down the road is changing to daffodils as I type. Quite a sight to see and planted many decades ago by a farm worker to a neighbouring farm to ours. The sun is shining and although frosty it is beautiful. Snowdrops have been spotted and spring is in the air. The days are getting longer and it's easily light until 5pm now. Wyndhams cousins at the other farm in Tugford have started lambing. Our sheep are still in the fields as they are not due to start until mid March but it's great to see the lambs if only inside the warm sheds at the moment. Now is the time to take advantage of low rates during the quiet season. You'll even get extra time in the Jacuzzi Hot Tub so send us an email and get your restful weekend organised.

Log Burners and Frosts

11th October 2016

Autumn has arrived. We've had our first frost and so have lit our log burner in the evenings. Meal House too have lit theirs so our guests are cosy and warm in front of a lovely glowing fire. We still have horses and their owners visiting as it's a great time to ride up onto the Brown Clee Hill and enjoy the colours of this time of year. The Welsh Hills in the distance blue and dusky. It's also a great time to get in the Jacuzzi day or night. You really get the best feeling sinking into the heat and watching the steam rise when all around you is cold. At night the lights make it even more special. Read on in the main blog to here what work has been going on at Tugford Farm -
